Bone Grafting

Strong Bone Support for Successful Implant Treatment

Loss of bone volume in the jaw can make implant treatment more challenging. Bone grafting is a surgical procedure intended to support areas where the available bone is insufficient. Bone grafting treatments are performed using 3D digital imaging and personalized planning. The aim is to help create suitable bone support for implant treatment.

What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure performed to support areas of the jawbone with insufficient bone volume.

When bone loss occurs due to tooth loss, advanced gum disease, or prolonged tooth loss, it may be necessary to increase bone support before implant treatment.

Before treatment, a detailed evaluation is performed using panoramic X-rays and, when necessary, 3D dental computed tomography (CBCT), followed by the preparation of a personalized treatment plan.

Who Is It Suitable For?

Bone grafting may be considered for patients who;

  • do not have sufficient bone volume for implant treatment,
  • have experienced bone loss due to prolonged tooth loss,
  • have reduced bone support following tooth extraction,
  • have bone loss associated with advanced gum disease.

Suitability for treatment is determined after a clinical examination and radiological evaluation.

Treatment Process

1. Digital Evaluation

  • The jawbone is evaluated in detail using panoramic X-rays and, when necessary, 3D CBCT imaging.

2. Treatment Planning

  • The extent of bone loss is determined, and the most suitable bone grafting method for the patient is planned.

3. Bone Grafting Procedure

  • The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The bone graft material is placed in the relevant area with the aim of creating suitable bone support for implant treatment.

4. Healing Process

  • The healing process of the bone graft is monitored through regular check-ups. Implant treatment may be planned once sufficient bone support has developed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is bone grafting performed?
  • Bone grafting may be performed to support the jawbone when there is insufficient bone volume for implant treatment.
Is the procedure painful?
  • Since bone grafting is performed under local anesthesia, no pain is felt during the procedure. Mild pain or sensitivity may occur afterward and usually decreases within a short time.
Does every implant patient need bone grafting?
  • No. Bone grafting is performed only when considered necessary. The need is assessed through a clinical examination and 3D imaging before treatment.
When can an implant be placed after bone grafting?
  • The timing varies depending on the patient’s bone structure and treatment plan. In suitable cases, the implant can be placed during the same session, while some patients may need to wait for a specific healing period.
